The main problem I see here in Colorado, is that many of the edibles appear very attractive to children. Therefore they require more care in access and storage. Some people can't even seem to keep firearms away from kids, and the pot edibles seem to be treated by some with even less care. However that all said, my personal opinion is that the appropriate handling of this subject would be to allow sale of the marijuana only. If individuals want to have it in other forms, let those people prepare those other forms on their own.
The other thing I don't think was thoroughly thought out is that it is currently legal here to cook marijuana down to make hash oil. I don't believe it is an exaggeration to say that about once a week, there is a report in the news about someone blowing up, burning down, (or both) their home or some other building, because they either don't know what they are doing or are not using the proper equipment.

Good point... ATF does not allow people to buy wine and set up a still to make brandy. Need to have a license to do that.
IMO the pro legalization movement needs to be pro active and regulate it self. Not allowing home made concentrates such as hash oil made with butane sounds like a wise pro active move to me... Same goes for store sold edibles that are not distinguishable from food items.
Zero tolerance laws would stop drinking and driving lickety split.
I can't figure out if this is supposed to be sarcastic or not.

murdering their loved ones in some stoned-out craze.
What.
For the record, I don't smoke weed or consume marijuana (though I have smoked, very infrequently, before I had kids, when I was working for employers based in a less puritanical country).
It's not available in Washington yet, but it's coming soon.
LOL
I can't tell you how many times pot has screwed me out of getting laid. I used to live with this idiot that would always smoke-out the girls that we brought home from the bar. One minute they would be ready for some action, and the next minute they would be stoned out of their mind and not wanting to bone anymore.
Nothing will dry a horny girl up faster than a couple of rips off a bong if we're talking about people that don't habitually smoke. Anxiety and sex aren't a good combination.
The more I think about it, the more I think that edibles are just a bad idea. I like the fact that pot has been legalized, as I find it to be no more problematic than alcohol, but I think these edibles are going to cause a lot of problems. I think the biggest problem is that one can eat an edible without knowing they've consumed a drug. Unlike alcohol, THC does't have a distinct taste, so unless you took it out of the packaging there's no way to know what it is. Make no mistake that people are going to get dosed with these products. What will start out as a harmless joke will end in a trip to the ER. As someone that used to smoke daily, I can say that edibles are almost like taking a completely different drug, and they're really easy to overdue for an inexperienced user. As much as I support the legalization of pot, I just don't think that any amount of labeling is going to prevent the problems that will come with edible THC products.
opinions?
You're right.
One time, I ate some pot bonbons and went out to do laundry.
You can roll your eyes all you want -- it's just more typical Washington 'we know better than everyone else' behavior. Last time I checked, it was still illegal in 48 other states. Frankly, I'd be happy if every person associated with the stuff -- smokers or dealers -- was behind bars. I don't distinguish between degenerates.
So, are you willing to see your taxes raised significantly to pay for arresting, prosecuting, trying, jailing, and imprisoning all those smokers and petty dealers? Most people with your opinion aren't willing to foot the bill.
For 2017, it is estimated that $1.26 billion in sales will pay $234 million into the state's coffers.
Oh, I'm sorry, did you think I had to justify myself to you? Well, I don't. I believe, from the absolute bottom of my heart, that you belong in prison. And were it up to me, you'd be there, partaking in all of its most wholesome delights.
Specious reasoning at its finest. Because clearly -- clearly -- someone's career path determines whether or not they're a degenerate.
Yes, that will obviously stop people from driving while under the influence, or, you know, murdering their loved ones in some stoned-out craze. The best part about you hippies is you've convinced yourselves that pot isn't just good, it's totally harmless, when the bulk of evidence that's come out for the past four decades has run directly counter to this. Pot's long-term effects are mentally debilitating, and it's short-term effects get perfect strangers killed.
You act as if I'm some kind of a hypocrite, but I don't applaud drunk driving either. And, in fact, I believe drunk drivers should be put in a cage and never see the light of day again. Zero tolerance laws would stop drinking and driving lickety split. We shouldn't be encouraging more morally ambiguous characters such as yourself to be taking their show on the road, and that is precisely what pot legalization accomplishes. You cannot control yourself, so you must be controlled forcibly.
How do you feel about alcohol?
People are much more likely to commit a crime under the influence of alcohol than marijuana.
Do you view people who drink alcohol as degenerates too?
Do you think alcohol should be illegal? When all is said and done, the use of alcohol causes more destruction than marijuana.
It's funny reading all these posts from almost 3 years ago predicting that people using edibles would cause catastrophic consequences for Washington.
Proof that legalization works.
Are you kidding? It's a post-apocalyptic hellscape out there!!!
