1) “I have no idea how close each place is”:
Maps will show you the places you are looking for. Every map has a distance legend printed at the bottom of the map. Try Mapquest. Since you do not tell us the “places” you are interested in, we can’t help you regarding distances. When you find out what places you want, you can do a Google search for the distances.

2) “columbia”:
Do you mean Columbia, WA in King County (usually referred to as Columbia City), or Columbia, WA in Whatcom County? Or Columbia, OR or Columbia Heights, OR? You can find the places on maps. Perhaps if you ask “the guy” where he offered you a job, you would get accurate information.

3) “waether”:
You can find monthly weather averages by searching at weather.com, or at
http://weather.msn.com/monthly_averages.aspx?wealocations=wc:USOR0275
which I narrowed down to Portland, Oregon.

*heh* ...good post, allforcats.

From what you're saying, londonman, I think we can assume that your prospective employer is telling you they are located somewhere near the Columbia river in the Portland Oregon area. Oregon and Washington are "states" whereas Portland is a city. Portland is located in Oregon on the Columbia River right against the border to Washington state.

Therefore, your prospective employer is telling you that you can live in either Washington or Oregon. Investigate the Portland Oregon area or its suburbs or the Vancouver Washington area and its suburbs.

The weather in either the Portland area or the Vancouver WA area will be essentially the same as they abut and are directly across the Columbia River from each other.

Allforcats gave you some links to some weather sites. Also check our City-Data reference pages for weather data also:

//www.city-data.com/city/Portland-Oregon.html

//www.city-data.com/city/Vancouver-Washington.html

Inquire further if you'd like us to point out suburbs for each city. City-Data reference pages will also have weather and other data for the suburbs of each of those cities.

The weather in the Portland/Vancouver area is a bit better than Tacoma/Seattle area...
Give or take a few degree's warmer and a few days of less rain.
