Hello KLW,

It seems you've received a lot of great advice. I think you'd like the location and feel of the eastside neighborhood. You have the Co-op just down the street. San Francisco bakery, which is awesome, quick access to the western- chehalis trail and just minutes to I-5. It's just as quick as Lacey, but has the old world charm lot's of bungalows and older homes, and some newer neighborhoods mixed in. Truly one of my favorite spots in Olympia. good luck with your move!

I woulkd agree w DBM but the assumption that there is a huge improvement in Olympia over lacey can be decieving The area in general is declining econmically somewhat except for state govt and a few others. Commuting to Madigan on I-5 can be harrowing esp if there is an accident or "black ice" as the roads are not treated much as in bigger cities-more fatal accidents. We are quite known for huge backups and snarls on I-5 as the population has far outgrown its capacity.....I used to do that commute to Madigan from lacey area and found it to be very stressful You could consider north of lacey closer to MAdigan and then commute to Olympia for activities...Steilacoom or Dupont areas are closer.....remember.....a difficult commute will be the deal breaker for success in your move-dont underestimate this

As compared to what, Manhattan? What is "sizable", that is very relative.

I enjoy the Boston Harbor area of Olympia... A real country feel, but only minutes to I5 and the steps of the State Capital. It might just be me, but I think the weather is a little milder there in terms of cold and snow. Lots of trees, which I like, but there were several detours due to downed trees in last December's windstorm.
