The NW has its moments where we wish for more blue sky & sun. But, I'd take the gray any day over the insane cost of living in CA, the stress of making a huge mortgage payment on a 50 year old house that needs a lot of updating/repairs in a semi-decent area, with average schools, lots of traffic/crowds, limited nature, few lakes/rivers, and potentially lots of people problems. Its all in the eye of the beholder.

She was 18 when we moved her over to western Washington for school in Seattle. Wow, it is green there and it rains a LOT!!

Your right....western Washington is pretty drab and non-descript.
It's called "The Evergreen State" because the majority of the trees are non-deciduous.

No trees in the desert, so you wouldn't know.

They’re also barely green, they’re so dark they’re almost black trees, especially in winter

No question that Washington can get pretty gray during the winter.

But spring, summer, and fall are glorious.

In fact, it's glorious right this minute.

For those of you who didn't grow up in Washington, isn't it a depressing state?
Couple of points:
1) It doesn't rain 85% of the time anywhere in Washington
2) The variance in rain totals is drastic depending on location in Washington (I now live in the sunnier side)
3) Yes, I do get depressed at some point in the winter due to the weather
4) I make a point of going somewhere warm and sunny sometime in the winter
5) Summer's are fabulous

There's always the next day or the day before, right? If its glorious out why not take a picture? I'm surprised with all the complaining about the climate how few photos I've see posted whether good or bad. While not everyone is a photographer most have cellphones these days. As they say, a picture tells a thousand words.

Those who think it rains 85% really have no idea of what the PNW is like. Though we haven't lived there we've visited quite a bit. There are many times when it can truly look like one of the most beautiful places on earth.
