I agree. Walla Walla is still affordable compared to Seattle/Tacoma standards, but it seems like real estate prices are on the upswing as the wine industry continues to grow.

While Dayton and Waitsburg are both nice smaller (waaaay smalller) towns within close proximity, Waitsburg seems to be the nicer of the two.

This is TRULY the key to Education. The pundits and bureaucrats can fight all they want about funding and unions and disparity...blah, blah, blah. This is the TRUTH you speak of.

Thanks!
Not sure if you've seen the WW post from awhile back:
//www.city-data.com/forum/tri-c...lla-walla.html

The neighborhoods to 'stay away from' have been updated and schools are mentioned quite a bit.

Personally, I would be depressed living in the Tri-Cities. Urban sprawl and not much character.

Interesting you lived near Pioneer Park- we're moving into that area, too! You know, that's still an IDEAL area for kids. Brought a friend over from Seattle as I was scoping the neighborhood and he couldn't believe how nice it was. And affordable compared to Seattle prices and lifestyle!

I agree that Dayton can feel a bit less warm to outsiders. I do not get that impression at all in Waitsburg. Everyone does know each other (as Deez said, both are much smaller by comparison to WW) but there doesn't seem to be the lukewarm attitude towards newcomers in Waitsburg. It is a beautiful town, with small class sizes (obviously) and very peaceful.

My fiance settled in Waitsburg (after living in Walla Walla for a few years when he first relocated from Seattle) because he found an adjacent shop almost the size of his house - something he wasn't able to find as easily for a similar price in WW.

However, I think the conveniences of Walla Walla might serve someone better with younger children. But either way I don't think you can go wrong. In case you haven't seen it, here's a great article from the New Yorker from Feb 2016: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/21/tr...ants.html?_r=0

Myself, I can't wait until I can move out there, although I will likely be commuting to the Tri-cities for work, too. Seeing as I'm already spending 2h a day commuting in the city at 1/2 the distance, that doesn't faze me much.
