I lived there from 1993 to 1996. From a Google search, it looks like it had a population of roughly 28,000 during that period. Though there are of course a ton of towns that are much smaller, I really did get a fairly insular, small-town vibe from living there (it wasn't where I grew up, FWIW).

Keep in mind, though, I grew up in the SF Bay Area and live there now, so my perspective is fairly skewed I' sure. But has anyone else here experienced that vibe from Walla Walla?

I'm curious to read what people think.

No, it isn't odd. Isn't Walla Walla a small town?

That's a pretty loaded question. To me, Walla Walla is a fairly large town, because I live in a town of 4000 and grew-up in a town of 800. But, relatively speaking, Walla Walla is small, compared to Seattle or Spokane or even Tri-Cities.

I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder. Whether is actually a small town or not, I do think that its relatively small size combined with an active downtown that is ringed with walkable neighborhoods makes Walla Walla feel like classic small town.

Walla Walla is a small town. What's so confusing about that?

I get that insular small town vibe everywhere in the PNW. It's inescapable. It's not a perfect culture, for sure.

Many reason for ST vibe in WW WA. +/-

It is a small town
It is semi remote, thus creates it's own identity (Not a suburb!)
Limited employment
Private college (Pre 1907 was Christian missionary training focus)
http://www.seniorsresourceguide.com/...ior_news.phpAG centric community (As is the vast majority of rural USA west of Missouri Rvr)

Walla Walla can be a great place to live and work.... Or it can get under your skin.... WA affords lots of peolpe and places with that dilema. +/-

Whitman has a very interesting history, and a great service to USA diplomatic corp... Who would think.... 150 yrs of Edu, in the equally young territory of PNW. There is a lot of merit in struggling through that deliverable. It was never ez for them, thus.... They can be a bit insular in the region

Walla Walla is a small city. It has public services towns usually lack. Been there and loved it.
