Kind of funny, the population of both counties combined is only 175,000.

You're referring to Lewis and Cowlitz?

The east/west split is also there due to Washington state government policies. People in eastern Washington really do not like the state government. They have much fewer issues with local and federal government. Whereas, people in western Washington have issues with local government.

People that move to eastern Washington expecting a "conservative" government at the local level are shocked the the liberterian attitudes and socialist policies at the county level.
Even in Western Washington. Outside of cities and retirement communities, in blue collar working class area's of rural Western Washington.. is again that strange mix of Socialist/Libertarian.

Generally fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

I am a blue collar farmer, and fit this mold perfectly. (Was a Bernie or Bust voter.)

It is seems odd, but it is not. Much of Rural Scandinavian countries are very conservative Socialists, that think Libertarian.. LOL

Lewis and Cowlitz counties such big GOP...

Basically it is because of the I-5 Exit 72 Uncle Sam billboard... The ONLY sense / expression of reality and reason on the left cost.

Thank you Al Hamilton R.I.P.

What does that have to do with anything?

well... #1, it means those counties DON'T COUNT!!! (in an election)

Music to the ears of those in CONTROL of WA (those in 'control' are Not the job / economy creators)

The fewer counties that count, the better for the LEFT!

No worries in WA that the 'left' will ever be overthrown! Just import a few more voters from our sisters to the south. (That is why elections are held in NOV, before all the southerners flee back to CA and OR!)

Perfect! a whole left coast to themselves (politically).

Gotta do something about AK...

Yeah, I always find it funny that people consider Washington a "blue" state. I guess that's true by the number of votes - but if you take a road trip around this state, almost everywhere you stop you will find more conservatives than liberals - with the exception of a few specific areas, or course.

Votes are concentrated in the cities, cities are more liberal. Same everywhere.

Democracy is based on one person, one vote. If we did it by the acre then it would essentially turn into the feudal system.

Would be nice if local politics wasn't so influenced by national politics, far too many people vote based on their opinions of party leaders rather than on the local politicians.

Would be nice if ... Politics were back to a 'volunteer / community service' role rather than a well paid career with a better paid after-life (lobbyist).

Do, say, ACT ...what ever it takes to win,
Win... repeat as often as necessary, No need to actually DO / accomplish anything as a politician... just WIN

Hollywood works fine, nobody looks at your voting record, in fact you probeably didn't even show up to vote on any measures. Too busy re-campaigning to do have time for your J-O-B. Gotta WIN!

All is Golden, as long as you win (the election, or win friends in High Places (after-life career / payments))

Sweet gig! (for those who can live that way)

Don't forget in the mix is Clallam county that supported Trump. Even western Jefferson county support conservatives principles and if not for liberal PT would have had supported Trump in the presidential election.
Eastern King county support Trump. And so on. Only the I-5 corridor actually supports liberalism. The rest of the state doesn't support government controlling them.
