I've actually been looking over in that Brush Prairie area. We have family a bit further out in the more rural part and they love it. Though we're looking to be closer in than that. I saw a bunch of new development going on in the southern Hockinson HS district near NE Ward and 162nd. Here's one the developments: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/N...?fullpage=true

Default something doesn't make sense in these calculations

Olympia has a violent crime rate of 3.92, and a property crime rate of 48.87

Bellingham has a violent crime rate of 2.60, and a property crime rate of 55.15

So, Oly's violent crime rate is 51% higher than Bham's, while its property crime rate is 11% lower.

Why then is Oly ranked higher ("safer") than Bham?

Even if violent crime and property crime were equally weighted, Bham should rank higher than Oly.

Yeah if we had school age kids we would be sticking to Camas, Hockinson, or Ridgefield districts. But that's not a concern of ours. So we just found the best lot we liked.

The remaining cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes accounting for 1.5 of the total (due to their severity) than property crimes.
Olympia: 48.87 + (3.92 x 1.5 = 5.82) = 54.69

Bellingham: 55.15 + (2.60 x 1.5 = 3.90) = 59.45
