I live in New Jersey and I love the outdoors and we have some hiking spots around here, but we lack outdoor activities due to our state being so densely populated. Washington state is good for it's outdoor activities.

Things I don't like about hiking in NJ:
1. Climate sucks. Way too freezing in winter and we have hot 'n' humid summers.
2. Mosquitoes everywhere and you will get bitten up.
3. Risk of seeing a snake. At least NJ isn't tropical where you would have to see snakes hanging off of trees. You would only have to be aware of snakes from left to right and not up to down.
4. The scenery seems to be the same.
5. The scenery is drab. Just plain ordinary oak trees.

I know that Washington has better climate and when I hiked Mount Rainier, I barely saw any mosquitoes, I never seen one snake in Washington, and the scenery is just way better. Beautiful evergreen trees that still have their leaves in the winter and I always liked those kind of trees better than plain oak trees. The scenery is just better, but also has more changes. You can suddenly be in the wilderness, or see a bunch of rolling hills and rolling mountains.

I heard that Washington has beautiful bodies of water.

I agree on all counts. The only thing is, that there are heat waves that have been happening the last few years, due to global climate change. So you'd want to skip hiking during the warmer weather. But other than that, it's a hiker's dream. And quite varied terrain; you can go on easy hikes, or more strenuous ones, that climb in elevation significantly. I suggest when you get out to WA (Western WA has the cooler weather, btw), you join a hiking club, to help get oriented. Stick with established trails; people can, and do, get lost.

FWIW, I think NJ on the PA border is beautiful! I was surprised as to how open it was, with lots of natural, undeveloped terrain. This is around Lambertville. I don't know if it's like that everywhere, along the border.

Yes! Much more likely to find dead bodies on the trail.

But take my opinion with a grain of salt, my NJ experience is limited to old Soprano's episodes.

Yeah, Washington outdoor everything annihilates New Jersey. And yes, no humidity, no mosquitoes. You could arguably get away with no screen doors most times of the day. Hiking, it's not even a contest. Mountains, volcanoes, beautiful coast with rich Pacific waters, pristine rivers and lakes, bald eagles, amazing amounts of big PNW wildlife, and on and on it goes.

I wouldn't say "no mosquitoes". You'll definitely notice mosquito activity at night, if you sleep outdoors, without a tent. But generally, they're not an issue when hiking around during the day.

We also have black bears, wolves, and, soon, more grizzlies. In addition, we have Sasquatches.
