Good schools add significantly to the value of a home. With test score based ratings, you will find that the higher priced homes are in the best school districts. It's a matter of well educated, higher income people that will not only help their children with homework but hire tutors, participate in PTA fund raising, and hold schools accountable. Cheap homes=low rated schools. Having both cheap homes and good schools is as rare as hens teeth. In that area, for example, the best rated schools are Fidalgo elementary (A-) and Anacortes High (B+), located in Anacortes where most homes are in the $500,000 range. If you are OK with a small, older home, there are some in the $200-300k range there.

If you’re basing it just on the Good Schools rating, know that those are very superficial and are more reflective of the socioeconomic status of its students than anything else. Places like Niche have lists like this one — https://www.niche.com/k12/search/bes...git-county-wa/ — that help you dig a little deeper into what specific schools are doing well and where they are struggling.

I don’t have kids in school here, but as a former public school teacher I am very interested in supporting them. I hope you can find some useful information on where would suit your children best!

Good Schools rankings here are 100% based on test scores, which are heavily correlated with family income.

Niche Grades: Anacortes SD (B+), Oak Harbor SD (B), South Whidbey SD (B-), Mount Vernon SD (B-), La Conner SD (C+), Burlington-Edison SD (C), Sedro-Wooley SD (C), Stanwood-Camano SD (C), Concrete SD (C).

There are Catholic, Christian, and other private schools.

This is useful.. I am actually a high school teacher here in Louisiana in what’s considered here a good school district. But some schools within the district are A schools and some C or D... and I see that teachers salaries in mount Vernon are very similar to our salaries in public schools here in our district.here they have the rule that if you teach in a certain district you can bring your kids to study in that district regardless of your district address.. do you guys have that same rule over there?

Washington state does not have an income tax. Sales tax is high, but groceries are untaxed. Property tax is limited to 1% of assessed value.

Thanks for all the answers!

Homeschooling is common in Skagit County. It's also possible to partner with a school district and do semi-homeschooling. There are other co-ops and part-time schools for homeschoolers.
