I'm heading to Washington to do a final interview and I'm taking a few days to look around. I would work from home 3 days a week and spend one day/week in Olympia and one day/week in Seattle working. I don't mind commuting 2 days a week, so splitting the difference or picking one area or the other doesn't matter to me. I would just like to find an area that meets a few requirements: a Really good public high school that he would not need a car to get to (#1 concern), living in a town/city area where we could walk to coffee shops and restaurants (#2). Needs to be a low crime area (#3). We like to hike (willing to drive to a place, so less important). We would like a monthly rent for a 2-3 bedroom to be $2000-ish (or a better price, if possible). It would be nice to get that for a 3 bedroom so I can have a home office, but a 2BD would work too if it met all our other requirements. I would greatly appreciate any help you can give us to help focus the search since I only have 2 days to look around. If you have specific neighborhoods in mind, that would be fantastic. If you know areas I should avoid, that would help as well. Thank you for your help!

North Tacoma, walking or busable distance to Stadium High School:

You can find 3bd apartments/houses for <$2,000 in North Tacoma, but they aren't abundant. For instance:

Check out Dupont. A rapidly growing area just south of JBLM and only a 15 minute drive to Olympia, (with good traffic!).
Right off the 5.

Look into Puyallup or Lakewood. Puyallup holds the state fair every year.
Good luck in your search.
