Is there any place in Washington where there is little or no wind?

We may have a similar name, and... wind is something I have given quite a bit of thought to, so we may have a lot in common.

Regionally? I am not sure. Locally within the region, there are places that are more exposed than others. If you can find a spot on the lee side of a big hill you might find less wind. In Western Washington, of our worst wind storms come from the South and West, so the north or East side of hills or valleys with hills surrounding might be shielded from most winds, even during storms.

It might help if you could explain a bit more about what you're looking for, and what in particular you are worried about with wind. I have feared high winds in prior places I have lived, with our tall trees and winter wind storms. When we moved to our current place, I wanted to be safe, so I removed all the trees that could reach the house or barn. It was one of the first things I did. I do love our trees in Washington, I just didn't want any of them to be able to hit me.

Doesn’t the Yakima Valley frequently get air stagnation advisories?

We get air stagnation advisories all the time in Washington, in summer. We spent most of our summer all smoked up because the air wouldn't leave.

It's the winter winds that will get ya.

That's why it makes a big difference exactly what our OP is looking for.

It's the opposite on the east side, our air stagnation happens in winter. As far as the OP's question, anywhere in the state is going to be windy from time to time, with an occasional windstorm.

One of the reasons we chose Sammamish is the lack of wind. Still, there will be 2-3 storms every year with winds strong enough to knock down trees and cause power outages. So far this winter it’s been worse, with 4 windstorms already. That can happen anywhere in the state, however. We don’t want to be in a place where it’s windy on a regular basis even on a sunny day, like Ellensburg and the west side of Whidbey Island. I once read that Winthrop is about the most wind-less place in WA, but they do get 63” of snow.

There are depressional areas that get less wind, but they also end up having air stagnation and poor air quality more often. I'd rather have the wind than that.

Thanks everyone. I have been trying to get away from the wind on Hwy. 2. It gets so bad between Index and Startup. But then you go into Monroe and it is hardly noticeable. It is the East wind that is so punishing.
