So does that mean my mid 80’s hot rod corvette is smog exempt?
I just don’t believe it because it’s to good to be true.
You would not believe what I have to do to keep the registration current.
That said, I’ve met Murphy and he sucks.
I just don’t see an easy pass here.
.

WA Collector plates vehicles never have required emission inspections.

($42 once / lifetime, whoops it is now $55.75)

and must be currently registered with std WA plates.

Has been only in selected counties for cars built from 1995 to 2009. Checks for check engine light history and is generally a waste of time.

I don't now about Wa... but in Az they require the *insurance company* to give you a policy for a classic or collectible car to get that exemption and get the classic plate...

And well... every insurance company I contacted said you have to have another car already registered as the "daily driver" or no policy.

One even stipulated that the collectible had to be housed in a locked garage.

So you may want to check with the DMV on what it takes to qualify for the no-smog plates.

Again, fed regulations have created an environment that doesn't require these tests. So thank the dems for this at the end of the day.

So glad WA is not 'auto insurance' constrained... and have to have each vehicle licensed and insured at all times (Some states require this)

Good thing for me, since I have 38 cars + many motorcycles and trucks.

I keep a few extra cars insured, and my insurance agent has a spreadsheet and I just indicate which vehicle I am driving which day.

I have a few collector vehicle policies (for custom stuff), but since my normal use vehicles are 40 yrs old and each still cost < $100... coverage it is not a burden. I just keep a few spare cars for when I get hit by one of those 'distracted' uninsured drivers. (has happened several times, 4x in one yr).

WA has 40% of drivers UNINSURED! (and many of those are driven by an unlicensed driver).

WA DMV does not require proof of insurance to collect any MV Plates (some states do, such as Oregon). But WA does require any MV operated on public highways to be insured and carry proof.

^^^ Many collectors obtain broad form insurance, so instead of your vehicles each being insured for yourself and whoever may drive it, it is the driver who is insured for whatever vehicle they are driving plus insurance for the value of the collection.

Stealth, yes we have an awful lot of un-insured here in Washington for a state with "mandatory" insurance. My mother, my ex, my aunt, and I have all been hit by un-insured motorists at least once within the last 10 years.

This is slightly off topic but not by much, but yet a bit.
So near 20 years ago my daughter was just turning 15 years old.
Really nice kid and I am still so very proud of her said “Daddy what kind of car do you think I should get?”
She said she really wanted a Jeep.
Jeeps and kids scare me because they flip so easy.
Ask me how I know.
So I said no way.
That weekend I found an old basket case Corvette for a good price
It was in boxes and the body/interior was totally trashed.
I said do ya want to build a car.
So she spent a year doing body work and the other stuff.
Blowing black booger’s and all that.
My older brother used to own 2 body shops so he he tutored her and made her do the work.
My brother did the final sanding/prep
We paid a painter to shoot it.
We paid a race shop to do the motor.
My Dad bought her an upholsteryand rug kit that she installed.
I bought her a wood grain panel kit that she installed.
When she turns 16 her Corvette was the car she used for her driving test.
Spent close to 30k on this project.
Now back to the topic.
How much do you think full coverage insurance for a 16 year old kid driving a Corvette costs?
$425 per year.
Yup that’s right.
We hid it under our umbrella.
Registered to me as a Sunday driver allowing all legal drivers with a good dmv report and no dui’s.
Her best friend that was the same age and live next door paid $1,800 per year for a used Ford Focus.

Washington state to end vehicle emissions test program in 2020

For registrations expiring in 2019, vehicle models from 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008 will still need an emissions test in order to renew, excluding motorcycles, Toyota Priuses, Honda Insights, and vehicles over 25 years old.

Within those requirements, testing is mandatory in 2019 for these zip codes in Clark, King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Spokane County.

You won't find many models from those years that are over 25 years old.
