Are there dangerous currents on the Washington side?

I researched some monitoring stations but see none West of Longview.

How might this area-water be different from the Gorge?
When you say 'swimming' can you be a bit more specific? For example, are you talking more about going in near the shore somewhere with kids to play - like 5-10 feet from the shoreline? Or are you a serious distance swimmer who swims against currents in deep water? Or are you simply looking to get wet and float down river?

There are big floats down rivers that go on during the summer months in WA and OR. Then there are areas which are calmer, more protected for wading, some light swimming, etc... Many other areas are good for wind surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking. I guess it depends what you're really looking for.

We were just at the coast near there yesterday on the Oregon side and there were lots of people in the ocean. The weather was warm and so was the ocean relatively speaking (~60). Some were even out without wetsuits! Little kids were playing in the ocean with swimsuits on. People out with bodyboards, surfboards, SUPs, etc... It was great fun.

From a few reports I've read, if I was swimming in the Columbia near Astoria I'd be more concerned about what the seals and sea lions attract!

Well this would 20 miles further inland. I dont care if seals and sharks fight. Its like visiting any gang-related. place, most of the warfare is internecine.

This is next to Vista Park.
