Looking on Google maps, it seems like the local economy runs on lodging as that’s the most common business I saw on Google maps, counted 15 of them. Also in the wiki article it said the median income for women was 0$ so I’m guessing most of them are house wife’s which would explain the lower household incomes, but still $10,000 is really low for even one person, a person making minimum wage ($12) working full time should be making around $25k a year.

Calling Glacier a town is almost a stretch. It's a weird place, but it's not really as mysterious as it looks on paper. It's literally the somewhat decentralized ski village closest to Mount Baker, as it borders Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie NF, and it's the last stop for supplies on the Mt. Baker Highway before you get to the slopes. It's a smattering of mostly seasonal lodging and vacation homes, and it's where a bunch of hardcore skiers/snowboarders reside. So, seasonal employment and definitely a lot of the off-the-grid hippie types, not traditional incomes or housing setup.

It's affordable out there on welfare, that's about it. I'd guess it's a combination of ski bums, minimum wage seasonal workers for the ski area and lodges/tourist traffic, and low income retired people.

It could work out, but a lot of people need the necessaires, stores, restaurants and the like. But if you want off the grid? It might be a place for you, never know?
