This whole thread is cranky and I feel like I walked into page 3 or 4 of an argument that started somewhere else.

To reduce the "crankiness", I must say Washington is still a good destination for newcomers. There is no state income tax, but the retail stores will tax the hell out of you. The political climate is mixed, but because Western has more population than Eastern, the liberals win everytime. I won't comment on that, as I think this mix is actually important.

Washington is a great state for anyone hoping to become employed, or hoping to start a new business. The State is healthy, and growing. I am not a member of the "slow growth" society, I actually encourage folks to move here. They will just make the State better. It is the 2nd largest west of the Rockies, and the economy rocks!

I'm not a conservative, but I have a few conservative friends who like WA because the gun laws are fairly loose for a blue state (with lots of places to shoot) and there's no income tax. They're also fine with Seattle's high minimum wage, because they can see it's not tanking the economy and it makes life easier for working-class people who didn't go to college. With that, and with a big city and wide-open spaces far apart from each other, the state seems to be fitting a lot of people's preferences.
