Yeah - we are 75 feet up from the creek.

The prairie area has been a flood zone a long time, and farmed. And floods came and went with mostly no consequence. Now there's homes there.

Much of the cities of Chehalis and Centralia flood also, and it's been largely tolerated. Homes in flood prone zones are often elevated several feet. Lots of pics of flooding from there are also being circulated if you google.

The Chehalis misbehaves a LOT. Almost every year there's flooding. The powers-that-be are contemplating a flood control dam on the Chehalis, that would be activated during flood times, to meter the water through in a more controlled way. While some wonder if this is wise, it would be a game changer for being able to develop a lot of the river flood plain that is unbuildable now.

Here's more pictures from the Chehalis Chronicle:

Here in TriCities we had about three inches Thursday but it all melted today. Typical for this area.

Here are some photos from Vancouver today. It was actually quite beautiful and the first time we've seen this much sun in while. Tomorrow is forecasted to be sunny as well with no rain.

This morning’s weather… Cold, foggy but not raining! :-)

Should give away the sun later when the fog breaks up.

Today was a glorious winter outside. I went out and got a double dose and sun and coast therapy.

Sharing this article for it's historical perspective on our weather, and local SW WA flooding.

From Native American Legends to 2007: A History of Flooding in the Chehalis River Basin
https://www.chronline.com/stories/fr...er-basin,21216

Originally written after our great 2007 flood, it was reposted by the paper this morning. It gives historical perspective for those who either don't know, or have selective memory about, our climate and weather, by republishing stories from previous big floods. I was struck in particular by this sentence:

“As if to make up for a dry summer, torrents of rain have been falling for some days, and the rivers and streams are unusually high for this time of the year,” The Centralia News reported Dec. 15, 1887."

Sounds like something that could have been written last week.

So, did this latest storm reach those old flood record levels?
