My husband just found out today that his job is moving from Kent to Renton.
His daily commute is already difficult, but this new location likely will add up to another half hour each way. (We currently live in Puyallup.)
Where should we be looking for another rental besides Renton and Kent?
Thank you all in advance for any suggestions, insights or comments.

Well, you know me.... I'd suggest Renton.

Keep life, and commutes, as simple as possible, at least until you learn your way around.

Many many years ago my sister in-law asked me about my commute.
I said “it’s not that bad it’s only 45 minutes or so each way”.
She told me that that’s 9 weeks of billable hours going to waste each year.
She is a lawyer for a very large firm and I was only a young 20 something dingbat.
I will never forget that conversation.

Having worked in both Kent and Renton and lived on East Hill between Renton and Kent. Actually Cascade Visa [Started homes} up scaled as my financial advanced allowing a move to Fairwood then on to Forest Estates which is about half way between the two cities and in the late 90's was an easy commute to both cities..

Although both Renton and Kent have changed traffic wise since I retired in 2000 I still think East Hill is the most logical spot. A ton of apartment building along 108th ave SE. And in Fairwood off from Petrovitsky Ave.

Thank you all!
You guys and Gals make a lot of sense!
It appears we have found a rental home in Renton near Lake Washington which is both affordable (around $3500) and roomy enough while offering the yard space our two indoor cats crave. They are extremely active and miss their small fenced backyard in Colorado. They are constantly supervised by their Daddy which means they will never be left alone outside for any length of time. (We are aware of coyotes and other wild animals.)
My husband is already tired of this endless commute and actually doesn't mind paying double rent until the Puyallup rambler is re-rented .(The lease allows that as long as we pay reasonable costs for advertising ,etc.)
We estimate it will take a little more than two months to get everything moved out and do the necessary cleaning required (i.e. a professional carpet cleaning with the receipt offered as proof per the lease, etc.) before the management company will relist the house.
We are of course dreading the repack, reboxing , U-Haul trips, moving men, etc. but as already noted, these long commute hours lost are gone forever and we need to stop the bleeding now, and not wait until May 1 2023 when the current lease officially ends for him to start living to work instead of working to live.
We found the co- owner affable and easy going and he is ready to start the lease on August 1, so we must grasp this rare opportunity to live a half-hour or less from his current and future job sites.

I moved from Renton to Kent in my Younger years. I assume you are renting and not a home owner.
I Would try to get as close to Renton as possible, if not able to find anything to rent in Renton?
East Hill would be a good option already mentioned in a earlier post. Best of luck in your move.

Thank you all for the very perceptive replies!
Actually, it's very near Lake Desire (my bad, LOL!) We just got the keys yesterday when we paid the August rent and deposit.
Today my husband timed the commute from Kent to Renton as he was starting the cleaning process and he had a car full of little things to drop off: Tada! Only 27 minutes from 5:30 pm when he left. Needless to say, he was thrilled. It only goes to show how truly awful commute times are in Washington when a thirty-minute commute seems like an easy godsend.
Losing that extra hour per day has been really horrific and the time should get even a little shorter once he is transferred to the Renton location. (Next month?)
Maybe now we can start exploring the area and enjoying life again - once the move (scheduled for Aug. 6) and final cleanup on the Puyallup rambler are done and the management company is notified by the 10th.

Good choice..not to far from Fairwood and Forest Estates where I lived. We did most of our shopping at Fairwood shopping Center just down Petrovitsky from your new digs. You will like the area.
