Gone are the days of $0.0277/kw?

I see there are still areas of WA reporting $0.02888 / kw. Likely Stevens or Pend Oreille County, or other rural places shipping power west.

What would be the rates if we would have used better oversight in 1970's and clear thinking in 1982?

What could we do with an additional 4gigawatt capacity today? Power electric cars, rail, ferries? Sell more power to CA?

NG powered generation stations that popped up when WPPSS failed made little sense, as WA has no NG resources.

Meanwhile, a coal train just rumbled past, dropping another shipment to China, where the tradewinds will deliver it back to USA as Acid Rain.

I am voting, City of Redmond Wa, FOR, Proposition 1, Public Safety,
Raise millage rate from 0.995/$1000 to 1.366/$1000 effective 2023; plus 5% inflation to baseline levy for 6 years; plus make permanent the base total Levy to 2028's millage.

Gotta keep the the unkept out, and in the major city.
Includes, new fire & rescue personnel, new mental health specialists, new police, and body cameras.

See your voters pamphlet and other resources.

We see those coal trains running through Seattle, right in front of the many apartments and hotels in Belltown along Alaskan Way. I always wondered where the coal is originating from. There must still be some big coal mines running somewhere in the USA.

Most likely Peabody mining in southern Montana and Wyo.

Coal burned locally makes for horrible air quality. If you look at an AQI map of the world, you will see a permanent brown haze sits on China, India and much of those latitudes of Asia, like a permanent forest fire, most of the year. Glad we don’t have that.

Guess you haven't lived where I live in WA.

The acid rail from an upwind coal power plant has eaten our concrete slabs, car finishes, and roofing material. For over 30 yrs... (finally abandoned in 2020)

Give me a nuke. (which is upwind too).

Actually the prevailing winds from Asia do effect air quality in our country. Both China and India continue to build more and more coal energy plants so expect more poor air quality in the future.
But the air quality in the US is very low compared to most countries.

Having been to both China and India five time each I can say both countries have a permanent haze.

This is what you are breathing....

Yup. FYI, I assume the stuff coming from the nuclear cooling towers is just water, so absolutely not an issue there.
