My husband was recently offered and accepted a position in Federal Way and now the rest of us are set to join him from Sweden and we need some help. We are looking to buy a house and need ideas on what citities, towns or neighborhoods to look in. We are currently renting a lovely house in Edgewood but ideally we would like to go further south. I'm looking for a place with a small town feel with a sense of community and great schools. I know, don't we all but a girl can wish right?

If you have ever seen Gilmore Girls, Stars Hollow would be what I am trying to find. Short of that I am willing to settle for something kid friendly with great schools. Any ideas?

It's no further south and I don't know about the schools there, but Des Moines has a bit of the Stars Hollow thing. Friendly small town on the water with a single screen movie theatre.

Gig Harbor seems to be my answer for everything! About 1/2 hour from Federal Way (but can be as quick as 20 min with no traffic...traffic during job hours can be tough). Very small town, friendly feel with great schools, incredible views, and places to play on the water everywhere.

Thank you both. We are spending most of this weekend driving around and trying to get a feel for what we want. I have a list a mile long with all the school districts and their scores and now I just have to try to make sense of it all.

The Tahoma School district is considered very good...that's Maple Valley and surroundings, but not super close to Federal Way.
