Does anybody notice that this year's summer hasn't been as hot like it was during the past few summers? To me the nights have been alot cooler this past summer compared to the past few summers and it feels more like a Spring night than a Summer night

I am not a meteorologist, but I believe it has much to do about the location of the jet stream, winds, and the usual high pressure ridge that forms during the summer over much of the western US. I am on the east coast and we usually have to deal with the Bermuda High during the summer. This leads to lots of hot and humid weather. Last year, the western ridge was centered a little more to the west and much of the northwest had warmer than normal temps. This year, the (unfortunate) people in the lower Midwest are feeling the brunt of the high temps.

Weather seems to be a mix of chaos and predictability. What you expect to happen may happen, but on the other hand, it may not.

I lived in Moses Lake in 74 - 76. It was the first place where I saw 100+ temps. It has been just the past few weeks that the temps have climbed into the 90's. I would have loved to have seen those temps instead of low 100's in early June.

It has been cooler this summer.

Back in the late 1970's and 1980's we also had cool summers. It looks like the 90's and 00's have had hotter summers. Also the winters have had much less snow.

The falls have been drier and the springs have been cooler. I can do without the cool springs. I remember playing golf and camping on President Day in Febuary. Now it seems to be cold and snowy every President's Day.


It seems if we have a cool summer then we get a warm fall and winter. But when you average the whole year together.....it always seems to come out AVERAGE.

Yeah I noticed. It was "cold" when it should have been hot, and there was only one week of triple digits.

Long story short, the La Nina that was going on has quit.

A lot of our weather patterns can be explained by La Nina/El Nino phenomena. Pacific Ocean water temperature is what drives the climate here and why it's not as cold as the upper Midwest, which is after all at the same latitude.

Now we went through around 4 days of the triple digit temps again just during the last weekend, the winters have been getting warmer than they used to be that's for sure.
