My Wife is working for MWR, and we are thinking of moving back up that way. We once lived in the East Lake area north of Seattle DT.. but have not lived near the Fort Lewis. She found out she can transfer her job up there, and I can as well.. but were unsure of where to move to.

We have 3 kids, 1 in High School, one in Jr. High and one in the 4th grade. So schools are inportant, as is saftey for the kids.

Any info would be nice.

Looking for good schools, I'd look at Lacey or Dupont

I've heard good things about the Steilacoom schools also.

Muhnay,

I would agree with the previous posters, that Steilacoom, Dupont and Lacey are good choices. I would say that most military families live in Lacey and Dupont. Steilacoom and Dupont are a bit more pricey than Lacey, as they are still in Pierce county. If schools and safety are important to you, the best choice would seem to be Olympia. The Olympia high school ranks in the top 5% of public high schools nation wide and Olympia has been ranked safest mid sized city in the US by Sterling the past two years in a row. Olympia is 15 miles south of Ft. Lewis and blends right into Lacey, as the two towns have grown together. Home prices in Olympia in the neighborhoods with the most desirable schools are a bit higher than in Lacey.

Good luck with your move.

Sandy

When my husband and I first arrived in Washington (we were military and were transfered to FT Lewis) We lived in Lacey. It's a great place if you have kids. I loved the schools there and had we not moved on post eventually we would have stayed longer.

When we retired we moved to Gig Harbor. It's till close enough to get there when we need to, but I wouldn't want to commute everyday from here......

Steilacoom is a beautiful area. If you can swing the price, I recommend going there.
