I have to state on the ticket that I admit to speeding but want my case heard? Or can I request a deferrment even though I marked on the ticket that I did not commit the infraction?

I believe you can send the fee and a letter requesting to be deferred. My understanding is it will be deferred for a year or 2, provided you don't get another ticket.

You have 2 ways to go here - either ask for deferrment, in which case you pay the fine, but no points, you can do this once in every 7 years. I am not certain if the court *has* to grant this, but I have never heard of it being turned down. Speed enforcement is about revenue, they get the money, so why argue with you?

Other option is to fight it yourself or hire an attorney. If you are in the Tri-City area PM me and I'll give you the name of a pretty good lawyer.

NMA has an excellent attorney referral on their website. My stepdaughter picked up a ticket in Issaquah and it was more practical to hire an attorney to fight it than DIY. I forget her name but there is a female attorney on the NMA board that will do the deed for a fixed fee, something like $200. I selected her, she took the case and won it for me. As they say, past performance does not guarantee future performance though.

Or, hey, click the Google-powered ads.

I would think fighting it makes the most sense. I have heard that the cops are generally discouraged from showing up to fight a ticket. Note: In WA you have to specifically request the officer show up, only state that they don't have to show up to testify against you. Obviously you want to make the cop show up, so when he (she) does not, you can move to dismiss the case.

If the above paragraph reads like Greek to you, you probably should hire the attorney rather than DIY.

I received a speeding ticket in Seattle last year from the WSP. I requested a mitigation hearing. Sent in the paperwork to do it by mail. I requested deferred finding and sent a letter with my request.

I believe in order to request a deferred finding you have to plead guilty.

I got my deferrment. Faxed in a request and stated that I wasn't speeding so I am not responsible and to give me a deferrment to prove otherwise.
