So I will start a new job at a naval base in Keyport, but I am trying to decide on the right location to live. I am single, 32, and looking for an area with low crime and a place for a single dude to mingle with people of the same age bracket. A local credible community college would be nice along with parks, recreation areas, a gym. I would like to keep the commute somewhat short and the rent between $800/1000. Any suggestions?

In light of the commute I would chose North Bremerton / Silverdale. CCollege + nice INDOOR pool / park at the Y near Harrison Hospital. (all bicycle distance or ~ 5 min apart via car) The Hospital is very good, should you have need of it!

Gig Harbor's not the place for a single guy to meet folks. I'd say Bremerton is your best bet.

Parts of Bremerton are rough, others are really nice. They've worked very hard the past 6 years revitalizing the downtown waterfront area. Port Orchard is also nice, but pretty sleepy as well. One option with Gig Harbor, which is closest to Tacoma, which will have your most night life. 10 min from Gig Harbor to Tacoma's new 6th Ave Dist.

Last I heard the Mannette district in Bremerton was pretty nice.

That's where I would go. I used to live in Port Orchard, and at your age, I wouldn't recommend it. It's a nice town, but I could not stand how rural it is. Bremerton is just fine, and actually has some character (nice craftsman bungalows and a downtown area). Silverdale, to me, is just strip malls and commercial areas with traffic. Poulsbo is nice, but too "touristy". Go Bremerton.
