I've been browsing apartments online and came across some nice looking ones at the above intersection. I've been told that this is Hilltop, but that the entire area isn't as dangerous as it used to be. Does anyone know if this particular spot in downtown is relatively safe?

I would feel comfortable there. Like any city, I wouldn't be careless in dark hours, but I certainly wouldn't be afraid to move into that neighborhood.

It isn't to bad of an area. TPD says the crime rate in Hilltop is one of the lowest rates in the city. Of course you would still want to be cautious at night just like anywhere in any city. The intersection is pretty central to a lot of things. Wright Park is 3 blocks away and on the other side of the park is Stadium District. Then you have popular lounges like Tempest Lounge and the soon to open 1022 South (formerly Monsoon Room) 2 blocks away. Up around MLK you have 2 grocery stores, a bank, lots of food options, post office, candy store, art gallery, art co-op, etc. Oh and by the way I have walked home (with friends) from the lounges above at night all the way down Yakima to 19th and haven't had a problem.

Are you looking at the St. James or the new Ninth Street Flats?

Here are some pics of the neighborhood:

I'll agree with mthomson and jake. It's a pretty nice area. And you could practically roll down the hill to any events at the Rialto Theater.

Here is the link to the complex if you haven't already seen it: http://www.ninthstreetflats.com/
I have been in the building. The views are great!

Oh and that park picture I posted is just 1 block from the building. It is called Neighbors Park. Has a nice community garden too

Those photos were taken at South 8th Street, South I Street, and South J Street which would be Hilltop which is about 1 block from the apartment complex (9th and I Street) that the OP was asking about.

The park is Neighbors Park.

I took them and I know my city.. Thanks
