My husband and I and are 2 daughters ages 5 and 10 are hoping to move to the grays harbor area we are not settled on a town yet but leaning toward South Bend or Raymond Our biggest reason for moving is we want to be closer to the coast, we are also looking for a smaller city, low crime, lots of outdoor activities etc We have a home business so work is not a issue However I do need a large house at least 2000 sq ft and 4-5 bedrooms for under 200,000 and hoping for around 150,000 We have read alot of posts here and so far are very excited We have spent alot of time on the Oregon coast but like what we hear about the WA coast better Anyway sorry for rattling on-
We want to make a trip up to look more closely at the area this summer any opinions on the best most affordable place to stay

I've never stayed in Aberdeen but nearby in Westport there aren't many affordable places (fishing season and all). I'm going down to a cabin that I'm renting for $125 a night (OK it is beachfront and during Halibut season). I could have rented an apartment in Abdedeen for a month for $350.

I was just in the Aberdeen area looking at houses because my wife was considering a transfer to Hoquaim. Everything is so cheap there, I wanted to buy the whole town. There was a Victorian Timber Baron's mansion with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms on the hill for $200,000! Also there was an 8 unit apartment building for $199,000 (which the above mentioned $350 a month rent)! I was telling the wife, we'll just boot a few of these people out and occupy a few units, she didn't like that idea so much. There was also a 6000 sqft warehouse for sale for $129,000. There was a 1800 sqft tavern for $99,000.

Like I said, I wanted to buy the whole town up but the wife wouldn't let me.

When I stayed in Aberdeen, I stayed at the Guest House Inn and Suites. It used to be a Residence Inn. I think the cost was about $100 per night. It was very nice and included a small kitchen.

Here is their contact info:

You could always stay under the Young Street Bridge over the Wishkah River. I hear it has had a pretty famous clientele.

Not in Aberdeen, actually in Westport, just down the road.
