Hello! I am coming to Bellingham/WWU for an internship this summer. I am wondering, what are some must see's? I am excited to work and learn, but definitely excited to explore the Pacific Northwest...since in South Dakota the biggest body of water I am used to seeing would be the rivers flooding. thanks!

You MUST see Deception Pass at Deception State Park. I'd also scrape together the money to go on a Whale Watching Tour. There is at least one company that will let you keep coming back for free until the see the whales if you don't see any on your trip. I'm sure there are other must sees but I'm drawing a blank. I'm sure others will help out.

If you don't already have one, you should apply for a U.S. passport so that you can travel to Canada. From Bellingham, it's a short drive or train ride to Vancouver, B.C. So much to explore there.

Take the Anacortes Ferry (about 30 min south) to the San Juan Islands. Drive up to Artist point (mt baker). rent a kayak from WWU outdoor center and paddle bellingham bay. Rent a canoe at WWU lakewood (lake whatcom).

Sounds great! I am very excited, I do have relatives in Vancouver and I do have my passport so I plan on going there. Thanks for the tips! I will be writing them down and checking them off during the summer.
