Hey,

As I've said on this forum probably a dozen of times, I want to move to Seattle. Initially, I plan on moving into the city, but I eventually I want to move to a nice area to the west. If you've ever been to Golden, Colorado - where I live currently - that is roughly the kind of vibe I'm looking for. Quaint, unpretentious without being too unpretentious, and sizable enough to have a few basic places to get the essentials.

I've heard a lot of talk on this forum of the best places east, south, and north of Seattle - but not a whole lot when it comes to west.

What would you recommend?

mod interpose: when you say "west" of Seattle, I'm assuming you are implying Kitsap County? If so, I'm moving it to the general Washington forum. If not, let me know what you mean.

At first, if you want to live in the city of Seattle itself and have a middle class income or higher, Capital Hill, Queene Anne, and West Seattle seem to be awesome options. I would say most of the Seattle area has this unpretentious without being too unpretentious vibe, and being a manageable size. I would say it has a great mix of feeling quaint but not being too quaint as well.

If you dont want to live within the city of Seattle and want to live west of it, I would say Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, and Poulsbo are great options. They definitely also have the vibe you are looking for while having great views of some of the best natural and urban scenery in America with the Olympic mountains to the west, Mount Rainier to the southeast, the Cascade mountains to the east, and the Seattle skyline to the east.

If I get lucky, I can get a 35-45k job. I have a degree but little experience now (I'm only 24). But I understand its possible to live with roommates even with a pretty basic job and some savings.

Oh. Well, if you live with roomates that have similar salaries like that then you could probably live in Capital Hill, Queene Anne, or West Seattle that are within Seattle. Bainbridge Island seems like it cant be an option for you anymore. Bremerton and Poulsbo are still great options for places west of Seattle and are quite affordable(especially compared to Bainbridge Island, Capital Hill, Queene Anne, and West Seattle).
