I hate to make generalizations, and I don't know the Woodmark Apartments, but in general North Tacoma and west Tacoma are considered to be " better" than South or East. Doesn't mean that east or south Tacoma doesn't have nice parts. I'd venture to guess that they do.

I agree with the above poster. Anything around Steele Street can be spotty. I personally would not live anywhere in South or East Tacoma. Stick with the North side.

I live in South Tacoma on 56th near the mall, it is bad at times. I remember about a month ago I was about to fall asleep when I heard "POP! POP!" about 3 blocks away and a girl screaming immediately after followed by no less than 3 or 4 police cars. 5 mins later, just across the street in the parking lot I watched a black SUV roll up to a black Honda, 2 girls got out looked around and started screaming about drugs.
about another 5 mins later another black car pulled up to the girls. They got in after a few mins of talking to the driver. In my opinion, what I heard was a shooting. Then I witnessed a drug deal, and prostitution. Tacoma isn't nearly as bad as it used to be though. Ive known people who grew up on Hilltop who said that in the 90's they used to be woken up every night by gunshots. In my neighborhood, Ive met people who said they witnessed drug deals and prostitution at least once a day in the 90's. A friend of mine said that from 2002-2007 there were 3 dead bodies found in allies near his house, and gang shootings happened so much, that he just shrugged after awhile when hed hear gunshots. When I lived on the Eastside, within a month of moving in, I witnessed a driveby and a meth lab explosion on the same block, just across the intersection at the end of my block. Its bad out here but its steadily getting better.

I lived on the Hill from 91 to 92...On Sheriden...it was worse further north of where we were ...closer to downtown.
Lived on Pine at 84th Street from 88-89..I had a good experience living there..but we were a community then. I knew my neighbors..We watched out for each other and our kids. Most were military so we all had rank to protect plus our families. It wasn't the best neighborhood as we would find syringes at the curbs and used condoms in the vacant lot down the street. It didn't effect us because we didn't let it. I never did hear gunshots tho.. Actually, I never heard a gunshots in the middle of the night until I moved to Phoenix.

I know there are a few apartment review sites just google apartment reviews and then look that particular apartment group up.
