Hi there..we are being relocated from Denver to Everett this summer. I was hoping to find an area within a 30 min commute to Boeing. We would love something a little more rural (i.e. a bigger lot for our dogs, no walmart or starbucks on the corner, more out of the rat race). As for budget, probably 300k and under. I have been doing as much research as i can on the web, but i know that the advice from people that live there is much more valuable. Thank you in advance for your help
Beylls

As long as you stay North and East of Everett, you're in the semi-rural zone. When you go south, that's when density start to increase. Marysville (North), Snohomish (West, actually more SW-- but its a big area), Lake Stevens (West), Granite Falls (NW). Everett and North of Everett is very blue-collar-- there's no need to worry about the rat-race if you live in Everett and northwards.

However, Starbucks is a fact of life here-- you can't get away from Starbucks in WA But there'll be other coffee places here-- we like our coffees. At least there'll be Walmart off of Marysville (along with the shopping centers and the Tribal casino/hotel) but there really isn't anything in Marysville.

p.s. Do check to make sure you're not in the flood plains. There is a thread somewhere that does give the links to the flood-plain maps.

I'll say Snohomish, the town itself, not the county in general. Still has lots of farms around it, and it's a cool old town on the river.

NE Snohomish, Machias, Lake Roesiger to the east.
To the north, Lakewood (not to be confused with Lakewood in Pierce County)/Lake Goodwin, Stanwood, Warm Beach.

And if you really want a different lifestyle without freeways or Walmart and a definite vibe of it's own, consider the southwest end of Whidbey Island. The Everett Boeing plant is just up the hill from the Mukilteo Ferry Dock. There is no bridge access at that point, but the ferry crossing is 20 minutes. Be sure to factor in costs of the ferry crossing in to a budget or plan on joining a carpool. (WSDOT - Ferries - Schedule: Mukilteo to Clinton)

If ferry service goes down (which happens infrequently, but does happen), it's a long drive around. But you would not be totally cut off from services: Oak Harbor, home to a large naval air station, is the largest city on the north of the island and has hospitals and anything else you might need. Just another option to consider.
