I live in the EAST Bay. San Francisco is always cold and wet. It's climate is very much like Ireland; Winters are cool and wet while conversely summers are wet and cool. (Yeah, I stole that line from some guy in Ireland)
Normally summers here on "the sunny side of the bay" tend to be quite warm and dry. Such cool weather is very rare in summer on this side of the bay.

Vancouver International Airport (January 1, 2010-July 29, 2010)

Max: 28C (82F)
Min: -2C (27F)

The airport is located in the suburb of Richmond. The city of Vancouver itself was even milder than that with no recorded frost at all so far in 2010. A record for sure.

Were plants blooming in the middle of winter? Were flowering dates rather different from usual for Vancouver?

Yes, spring came about a month early here this year. Some flowers were blooming by the end of January.

The 17th, I'm not sure what the official temperature (at a major weather station) was. It was 110 F on the 6th. I checked our (well JFK's) lowest this year and it was actually 14 F . I think Troy's record is going topple within a few years lol. Newark was 1 degree shy of it's all time high of 105 F.

Something interesting I did the other day since I'm a Palm tree enthusiast:

Hardiness Zone

JFK:

01- 16°F
02- 19°F
03- 7°F
04- 1°F
05- 6°F
06- 14°F
07- 9°F
08- 11°F
09- 7°F
10- 14°F

Avg: 10.4°F

Zone: 8a

2001 is as far as Wunderground could go.

Cool! pretty soon NYC will start looking like the SE USA. It's interesting to see how the temperature ranges for each year go for different locations. I did the same thing for my location for Vancouver International Airport between 1996-2009 (minus the year 2000 for some reason) and got an average low of 16.2F (Zone 8b) but somehow it seems overly optimistic to me. Mind your our average highest high during the same period was only 83.2F which is pretty pitifiul..maybe that is why I don't feel so overly optimistic
