Holy crap! We just had an earthquake! USGS estimates it as a 4.2 centered east of Lafayette, IN, home of Purdue University.

My whole house shook for a few seconds. There does not appear to be any damage.

Interestingly, all 3 of my cats bolted from where they were snoozing right before it happened.

Yikes . . . but 4.2 is nothing. It's just a nice little diversion in the scope of earthquakes. I would say, just sit back and enjoy the ride.

We had a 4.9 here on boxing day. I was in a cafe at the time and stuff was falling over all around. It was pandemonium!

It was a small earthquake, but the early warning of the animals , this is very accurate.

Cool. There was an earthquake yesterday in England but that was only a 3.6. I didn't even feel it as it was over 100 miles away.

I was within 10 miles of the epicenter of the Lincolnshire earthquake of 2008, a 5.2 magnitude which is "big" for the UK. Frightened the life out of me, never heard a building make such terrifying noises.

Just had a light earthquake, a 5.3 - was pretty deep (149km), but still a bit of shake and rattle.

Temperature was approximately 16.2C at the time (2:59pm) with a 13.3C dewpoint, and sunny with scattered cumulus ... breezy today.

Multiple earthquakes off the coast of Oregon in the last 48 hours, including 2 of greater than magnitude 5. Perhaps the full-rip big one is coming? Realistically not very likely but the way 2021 has gone who knows?

Quote:
Dozens of earthquakes rumble off the Oregon coast

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is reporting dozens of small-to-moderate earthquakes that started yesterday (December 7, 2021) and continued through this morning, off the coast of the U.S. state of Oregon. The largest reached magnitude 5.8, according to USGS. Earthquakes in the ocean sometimes cause tsunamis. But no tsunamis were ever expected from these earthquakes, and none are expected at this writing.

Strong earthquake just a few minutes ago a 6.0, about 150km NE off here at about 50km deep. Strong enough to rattle the quail and for a couple of old gum branches to fall to the ground.

Current conditions at 8:04 pm at 20.4C with a 17.7C dewpoint, and heavy low overcast

Another 6.4 magnitude quake in the Turkey-Syria region, not far from the devastating one of two weeks back.
