Have news weather men or women ever heard of the power of 'suggestion'?

Why must they repeat that it's going to be

'chilly and cold tonight with lows down into the lower 20's'

I mean why must they repeat that 20 times within an hour??

It's like the power of suggestion...hearing the weather man say that
on the radio every 4 minutes, actually seems to make it feel more
cold than it really is or is going to be.

And most weather men seem to enjoy adding thier own descriptive words like...

'record lows' 'extra chilly tonight' 'better button up'

I can't stand cold weather any more...it shuts me down and gives me the winter blues...
so to constantly hear the weather man forecast my future for me,
by telling me how,

'cold and chilly it will be tonight and tomorrow'

Has just kinda struck a nerve....

And I can't really avoid it, it seems which ever radio station I turn to,
the same weather man is following me around telling me how cold my night and day will be...

As if they derive some kind of sadistic pleasure from it.

Oh well...as far as I'm concerned it's going to be hot and sunny today, with highs in the mid 70's,
so break out the sandals and shorts and head to the beach...

I know what you mean. Seems they are all doom and gloom.

We actually had a "Senior Meteorologist" say one night on the evening news.

"The temp tonight is going to dip down to zero. With the wind, windchill temps are going to hit -30 so not very many cars will start unless they are in a garage."

Huh? Windchill? Cars?

Thanks ElkHunter..

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Funny thing is, I originally come from a cold area...Eastern Washington...
But as a kid growing up, it seems you hardly notice it...

As an adult though, the cold just seems to rip right through my jacket, skin and bones...

Seems no matter what I dress in, the cold wind just seems to find it's way right to the skin...

Yes, these weather forecasters are just lovely with their little added descriptive terms...

Some people look at the thermometer to determine if they'll go outside. I look at the thermometer to determine how many layers to put on so I'll be comfortable outside. Because, I AM GOING OUT. hahaha

I live in Wyoming so I know all about the wind whipping through you.

I don't think that's so sad and negative. I think if the weather forecasters gave their news then read Edgar Allen Poe it would be sad.

The weather reporters just follow suit of what the news team does.

They could report that there was a robbery last night and that a gun was used. But instead, they report that there was a robbery last night and a terrible gun was used.

Now I've seen Glock, Smith and Wesson, Ruger, Colt, but I've never seen a "Terrible".

I think they are just trying to warn people,
as nobody would expect temperatures well below freezing in Florida normally.
I find temperatures below 24 F/-4 C particularly harsh,
even though our average low in January is 15 F/-11 C.

You find mid-70's F with sun "hot," and you live in Florida?
I might agree if I was taking a nap in a parked car, midday, windows rolled up.
It always amuses me to hear someone describe temps under 85 F as hot.

I'll admit, I've become somewhat of a weather wimp...

I'll get in the mood to do something, open the door to go outside,

get slapped in the face by a gust of freezing wind,

and hastly retreat back into my place next to the heater...

Just to hear the weather man on the radio tell me 'ice-age tempuratures will be 'creeping' in over the next few weeks'...

ElkHunter...I wouldn't survive one day in Wyoming these days...

at least not in the winter months...

Heard in Singapore in late December, with a joyful voice : "Tomorrow it's gonna be a little chilly ! with a maximum of around 27 degrees Celsius. [81F]"

Man I love this place weatherwise

Anything under 24°C / 75°F feels cool to me now (the lowest low we had so far in January was 22°C/71.6°F) - in early December in Lille 0°C/32°F seemed mild.
Funny how one can adapt to a different climate (ok especially from a cold one to a warm one )
