Being a Kiwi myself, I really appreciate the fact the summers seem to stretch on for a lot longer than what I've been used to in the past (well at least perceived warmth)

Nice to see a few complimentary remarks about Sydney's climate (as a counterpoint to hyper-exaggerated complaining!)

I think Vancouver is close to London but London is slightly warmer both in winter and summer. Vancouver is a good match for San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina of course with seasons reversed. Even the precip pattern is similar. Vancouver has warmer summer nights than San Carlos de Bariloche though.
In the Northern hemisphere, I think somewhere further north in England like Manchester or Liverpool are closer to Vancouver temp wise but not precip wise.

I think Sydney's climate is stellar compared to many other places. I can't see any reason whatsoever to complain about it.

I really can't find a good match. The closest seem to be parts of SE Europe, Central Asia and Northern Japan. SE Europe and Northern Japan have a low diurnal range and all but Northern Japan are too dry. Anyone have any suggestions?

Given we all have different climatic preferences I suspect Sydney fares very well in maximizing the % of satisfied people. For starters it doesn't get too hot or cold, winters are sunny and mild (with exception of June generally speaking) and reasonable sun levels (although I would prefer more).

Furthermore we are not likely to get catastrophic and damaging weather events such as cyclones or snow storms

True...different people have different climate preferences. Sydney certainly would not be on the top of anyone's list for people who like definite winters with lots of cold and snow. But you're right, for the majority, I think they would not have anything to complain about with Sydney's weather.

Very interesting! I enjoy reading about other places, especially well written, constructive comments!

I don't think I'd find a counterpart to my location (didn't try really) but did enjoy the posts!

I used to live in the NYC suburbs and Milan is a fairly close match but the winters are a bit too warm. Bucharest, Romania isn't a bad match but it's way too dry. Both of them are a bit too cloudy.
It will be impossible to take precipitation into account since each continent has a different pattern.

If you only look at temperatures, NYC is fairly close to
Bucharest, Romania
Simpheropol, Ukraine,
Krasnodar, Russia,
Qingdao, China
Sendai, Japan

Vancouver is much sunnier than London!
