This is a hard one. The summer is excellent, a good combination of rain and temps. The winters are too cold, but still bearable. A good cold winter climate. I would give it a B.

I copied its stats from a weather station on Long Island. Not too far from where I grew up.

I was surprised that it did fairly well. Not too many people really loved it, but it didn't get that many very negative response. Unlike some climates which were more love / hate responses. A little bit to satisfy everyone, but not enough to anyone that happy. Pleasantly mediocre...

Summers acceptable but winters are too cold.

C. For the same reasons as Shangri-La, change of seasons is too abrupt with no genuine shoulder seasons.

Doesn't Mar-May look like a shoulder season?

It's a relative term. Mar-may and Sep- Nov have a bigger temp increase/decrease than our yearly range of 10C.

Wow. I thought shoulder season is the season between the cold season and warm season. Your latitude is about the same as where "New Suffolk" is and your yearly average is very similar.

I guess it shows how limited yearly averages can be in climate comparisons. The latitude and yearly average here are a close fit for New York, as are rainfall and sunshine. there are only 2 months that have a comparable temperature though, April and October.

A former neighbor (from Vermont) said to me that there were only 2 seasons here- spring and autumn.

Yeah in NZ the entire year is basically one unending shoulder season.

"Permanent and slightly unsettled spring" was the description from a Japanese climatologist who had a lengthy stay in NZ.
