I've had the pleasure of visiting Maine a few times during the summer and it is beautiful up there. Great climate with long winters, comfortable summers, and plentiful precipitation. Cloudy too. I remember cabin camping in Northern Maine in August several years ago and it dropping down into the 30s.

Anyway, here's Portland, ME's climate: Portland, Maine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I give it an A.

Portland's sunshine isn't much different than further south. And I doubt you could get nights in the 30s there. If you go up north by Bar Harbor, it can get cloudier.

Not in Portland. I was in Northern Maine. August 25, 2001: High 73 Low 39. 39 F in August feels very chilly. History : Weather Underground

Record low in August is 33 F for Portland.

Yes, 57% of possible from the list I have. But only a C (-), for coldness.

I'll give it an A- or a B+. Could be just a tad bit colder in winter, but pretty good in my book

I found 73/42 on August 13 here one year. Not suprised at the 42°F but surprised it was so early in August.

Most of our record lows for August are in the 40s, but there's some 30s at the end of the month. All time record low is 34 F set on August 31st.

Most years lowest temperature in August is upper 40s to around 50 F.

Here it's usually mid 40s. Though a couple of years it was 50°F.

Long Island is mid 50s, with a few years up to 60°F. I don't remember any chilly weather in the summer growing up. I used to dislike having cool nights when I first left, but now I find it a refreshing change if it's only for a short time on an occasional summer night.
