Heh, I'm so used to living in a mainly flat area that I would call those hills "huge mountains" if I were to see those up close.

I definitely respect people like you who live in the mountains. Relying on the NWS to predict the weather for your area is probably useless when the climate you experience can vary by going a few miles in any direction.

Spring here is slow in coming this year. It's been cooler than usual, which is actually fine with me (I prefer cool and sunny!). The buds are just past being buds, but are not yet leaves. Robins are nesting on the neighbor's fencepost. The Sandhill Cranes have arrived (), and I think I've seen the last Junco of the season ().

Tom Skilling says more cold rains to come this week.

Here is the national radar imagery, from 1130 PM tonight (Monday 4/18), warm and humid and clear skies. The green patterns over the southern states are radar echoes from migratory birds heading north, as dense in the night sky as raindrops. A pretty amazing demonstration of the sheer volume of wildlife that still exists in the world.

Although there's been some mild days sprinkled in, generally it's been cloudy, chilly, and rainy this spring. This after having a delayed start with a cold and snowy end to March. Trees still in the budding phase, some flowers popping out, and grass is getting more lush.

This transition is going awfully slow compared to years in recent memory (2007-2010), then again we haven't had any 90's this April. I remember it going from bare to fully lush in less than a week. Now we're slowly getting there, at least there's already a decent amount of green.

Buds started showing up in February though, that's the earliest I've ever seen that.

Every time they mention "below average" it's still relatively warm, I tend to picture 30's & 40's.

Surprisingly the average high for our area is over 60 F now. Not sure about the city or Long Island, but most days have either been close to average or below average, with a couple exceptions. No complaints from me. I'm cherishing this cool weather. Nature always has a way of balancing things out.

Yep, I knew there'd be some unfortunate people somewhere on Earth getting a late spring and rain/snow while we're getting abnormal warmth and sun sun sun

Latest I can remember. The daffodils came into bloom in early April instead of late February, but this was up north. Even so, weeks later than normal.
