I use 1st June - 31st August as my definition of summer for meteorological record keeping purposes.
Here at least, the period 1st - 23rd September is warmer on average than 1st - 21st June. So from that POV the astonomical dates contain the warmest avg temperatures. On the other hand 1st - 21st June has stronger sun and less cloud cover so that may offset this.
I see. That's interesting. Does the same thing apply in the winter as well (1-21st of March is colder than 1-21st of December)?
Yeah, the "well below" was an exageration, which seems to be catching around here lately! Three times I tried to weed my perennial flower beds, got all set, the wind would pick up and it would pour.
I checked Wunderground and surprising Manitowoc and TR were almost the same. Normally there is a good 10-15 degree difference in the summer!
We haven't had summer yet here, our average high is 60°F so far this "summer" with rain and overcast conditions every day this June apart from 2nd - 4th. On those three days it managed to reach 20°C (68°F).
Every other day has been around 55-60°F max temperature and in the house it is cold so I have been using the heating a lot.
I turn on the heating when the indoor temperature gets below 20°C / 68°F and wear multiple pairs of underwear and fleeces because I feel the cold easily.
I think there's been about 3 days this month I could go outside without a coat and not get very cold outside.
It's rained over 100 days this year already but the avg. here is about 250 days per year. For the midlands it's about 200-230 and maybe 180 in the SE.
