Sydney's summer, in terms of severity, is only equivalent to NYC for the eastern (coastal) suburbs, and perhaps Virginia for the western (inland) suburbs.

Yes, but Brownsville has much warmer days winter days then Sydney, 90*F is not uncommon in the middle of winter. In contrast, your winters are more California like, which is why there aren't any coconut palms in Sydney. Average summer lows in Sydney are only in the 60s*F while highs are only around 80*F, while in South Texas it is between 75 and 80*F for lows and 88 and 105*F for highs. Why compare Sydney to South Texas and not Florida? We have nearly identical summer weather. Of course, you don't get the blue northerners from Canada which is why your record low is warmer then any place in Texas, even tropical Tampico, Mexico has seen subfreezing weather. However, some years Brownsville does not drop below freezing, the average 30 year absolute low is about 33*F.
Lol, Sydney's average high is more like the average low for coastal Texas. ALL of coastal Texas has summer dew points in the mid 70s*F.
