I lived there...the 24 hour days can rockas long as you get the right amount of sleep. The cold brr. and I was raised in a very cold climate. I will say F!!
Accessed the link and sure enough it shows an almost impossible temperature for January at that location.
I found such a number so difficult to believe that I dug a little further. Checked out Environment Canada and clicked on the climate normals and records and found it again!
23.4 C on 5 January 1997. That's like 74 degrees to us heathens.....
Still couldn't believe it so I searched for Rankin Inlet and went after the records for the month of January in 1997 located on another database. It appears that someone dropped the "minus" in front of the 23.4 for that date. Here's the link:
A particularly strong fetch of sub-tropical air might creep as far northward as Rankin Inlet but by the time it gets there, 0 to 5 degrees C (32 to 40) is about as much as it can deliver. 20+ is pretty much off the table..
I've noticed similar mistakes looking at weather stats in the US and Canada. I forget where, but at 4AM it was something like -13 F, then at 5AM it was 75 F.
