No doubt about it, this is a powerful cold shot coming
Yup. If the polar Jet is already doing this, something to consider moving on.
Future radar loop. White is snow not clouds.
Watch the south to north flow of moisture than as polar air dives down the storm strengthens with it and watch the rotation. Ontario gonna get pounded!
Yes this system for our area is quite difficult as any system that is progged to strengthen in the 500 mb level as it moves just east. Thus in many cases you see continued model differences, even among the hrrr/rap up until the time the event starts. And that to snow rates and how fast it will have to fall to overcome warm ground and also most of the snow will fall during daylight makes any type of snowfall forecast very challenging and not really going to know what to do til you see the whites of the eyes. Snowfall past sunrise in particular is really hard to accumulate with temps 33 or so unless it is very very hard, and in these cases once the hard snow ends it will start to melt fast once the intensity lessens. Thus true snowfall total is quite impossible to figure out. Elevation plays a key role....even in our region....where a couple hundred feet make a big difference. I have seen many a times in October with rain in Grand Forks located in the Red River valley and then wet snow 30 miles either side of the valley where elevation is a 200-300 ft higher.
Here is video from an early season snow on Oct 3/4th 2012 in Grand Forks
I wish I lived where it actually snowed! And had seasons. But, alas, I live in Southern CA and we're scheduled for a 100+ degrees this weekend! YAY! Not! People who don't live in CA always talk about the "great weather" that we have but, as someone who was born and raised here, I can tell you this: the only parts of CA that have consistently "nice" weather are the coastal cities and that's IT. I envy all of you who get to experience real seasons!
