Agreed. Both offer great climates, but I would choose Canada since it offers better choices and doesn't seem nearly as isolated as parts of Russia.

The mildest climate in Canada in winter would have to be the Southern Gulf Islands..
Saltspring Island has some spectacular gardens. But even it doesn't approach the mildness of a Sochi winter...

What about Victoria, BC? Average low in Jan. is 37, and they have palm trees and Canada's only native broadleaf evergreen tree growing there.

Sochi is definitely milder than Victoria by quite a long shot in the winter. Sochi has Canary Island Date Palms and Washingtonias there which Victoria has none of.

Even where the temperate climates (Do/Dc) are located, they are fairly far poleward (45 latitude or higher), so they only have only a short season of warm/mild weather and frequent sunshine. Whether one is considering Moscow, Montreal, Minsk, Vancouver, Toronto, St. Petersburg…etc it seems as if there are essentially no really desirable climates in either Russia or Canada:
Worse, Canada and Russia seem to have no provinces or offshore locations the way even countries like England or France have to get a break from their climates. We are spoiled here in the USA, as we have just about ever climate zone… and one can move about in the country and basically find whatever they desire climate/weather wise (cold/hot/desert/tropical/subtropical/semi-arid/highland…etc). Yet where do people who live in Moscow or Toronto escape to in their own country to get better weather? I often feel bad for these folks who live in high latitude, cold, often cloudy climates.
So if you were forced to live in Russia or Canada – which would, you not choose? Which one would offer the best places to escape to in their respective countires?
!!!!!!
What a biased and stupid comment. When comparing Russia and Canada you feel it is relevant to comment on the US. Does everything have to be about the USA? Short answer no. Ps stop calling your country America, the continent you live on is America.
!!!!!

Russia has some areas which at least approach subtropical standards (such as Sochi) so that gets it my vote over Canada.

I don't know how you can compare the world's two largest countries by area and say which one has the better climate. Both have probably a dozen different climates.
Is it Sochi vs Yellowknife or Vancouver Island vs Wrangel Island?

Colder by square mile, colder by center of population, capital, tourist resorts or colder than what? They are two huge countries with annual temperatures ranging probably by 40C!

5 largest cities in both countries? Annual mean temp.
Moscow: 5.8C
St. Pete: 5.8C
Novosibirsk: 1.8C
Yekaterinburg: 3C
Nishny Novgorod: 4.8C

Toronto: 9.2C
Montréal: 6.2C
Calgary: 4.1C
Ottawa: 6C
Edmonton: 3.9C

Candada wins this one. Warmest place then?
Victoria: 10.3C (Is this the warmest?)
Sochi: 14.2C (Is this the warmest?)

I don't know. One has to be a bit more specific when you are talking about two countries that own most of the world north of the 49 parallel.
