Year round, highs seem to be approximately 15 to 20 degrees warmer in Denver, with lows being quite a bit closer to those seen in Anchorage. Even record lows for most of the year aren't too far off from each other, while record highs are again largely different. So basically it comes down to whether or not you prefer cooler highs, or higher highs. Precipitation patterns also somewhat differ, though both locations also record very similar precipitation totals for both rain and snowfall. (Also of note: Denver has just over 1000 more average sunshine hours than Anchorage).

As of right now I'm still undecided. If I could have Anchorage's winters, with Denver's summers, that would be pretty damn awesome! But currently I am still torn on this one.

Anchorage - cooler and much cloudier. I also imagine the temperature swings aren't as wild. I was in Denver in the middle of December and it was in the upper 50s/low 60s. Pleasant, but not proper December weather IMO. Though a week later they were slammed with a blizzard.

Unless you are a firm cold-lover, this will not be a hard choice for most people.

Very true. Denver does seem to have much wider swings, whereas Anchorage seems to be a bit more stable. |

Downloaded Excel tables (can't remember the source - "Data through 2008" (last time I looked there was also at least a 2009 version which was only a partial update on the other one). The 2008 version has averages for 174 stations - monthly and annual percentages. |
