Thought it was worth of its own thread, especially since just over a month Alaska was getting record cold.

And surprise surprise - those who found their part of the planet colder than normal in May were not in the dominant situation:

Fairbanks has a week of 65 F lows and 90 F highs ahead. Wouldn't mind being there right now.

Barrow had 72 F forecasted but is only sitting on 45 F at noon.

This extraordinary heat is caused by an unusually strong and persistent ridge of high pressure over the Gulf of Alaska. The polar jet that usually brings shots of rain to the Alaskan coast has been driven south and is now sending that moisture into the Pacific Northwest. We need the rain, but I'd just as soon not have it so persistently nor for the duration it is predicted to be.
The ridge shows no sign of going anywhere in the next week to ten days and we in western Oregon and Washington are progged to have a very soggy start to summer....

Yes, we are having a chilly, wet start to summer indeed. It's been raining heavily all afternoon, and now your breath is visible. Tomorrow is solstice, and it's already getting dark. The temps are OK, but I'd like some sun to kick off Summer.

Inland locations not quite as surprising but the locales by the Bering Sea must be very surprised indeed.
