C+. Summer looks nice, although a little drier than I would prefer. Winter drags the climate down. A lot colder and gloomier than I'm used to. My memories of Portland in winter were of grey skies, but not as bad as Seattle.

Not that much sunnier than Seattle - 48% vs 43% Seatlle CO and 47% airport. Only 23% in December. C-. The hours quoted in Wikipedia are too high - wrong, as so typically often.

A C climate due to the passable summers and not tragic winters. Looks a lot like my home town of Victoria, BC only leaning more continental.

A-, probably the best American climate I've seen. Winters same as what I'm already used to except perhaps a bit shorter and the rain being a bit heavier, summer much more reliably summerlike with occasional extreme spells possible throughout the year. The minus only because of the lack of snow and thunderstorms. The city itself seems like the sort of place I'd enjoy too.

I was there once in Feb and felt quite a bit warmer than where I live. The grass was very green and roses were in bloom. I'd say C+. I like the winters, but summers are too cool.

Where do you get accurate sunshine hours for US cities?

Pretty much my take as well.

Admittedly, though I’m not a fan of cloudy, cool, temperate oceanic climates - it’s worth repeating that Portland has a better of a climate that points north (Seattle, Vancouver…etc). There is actually at least some semblance of a summer with warm temps in Portland, and I think summers are quite nice as sunshine is abundant in Portland in summer.

Winters on the other had are not so nice. The low sun hrs, cold temps, heavy pecip and many periods of changeable and disturbed weather in the cold season (Nov – March) in Portland. The local forecast for the Portland area for the next 7 days are typical of why I would struggle in this city:

To me there is only one place to be from November to March – in subtropical climates. Compare the next 7 day forecast in a subtropical climate (a city data favorate - lol):

It's interesting hear it being described so positively. For comfortable but still warm temperatures, I'd say Portland has the best summers in the US.

I'm really having trouble deciding about this place. On one hand, any place that can remain green in the winter is a plus to me. And the lack of cold relative to my winters is nice. But the incessant winter drizzle and cloud seems a bit much. And while the summers are definitely warm enough, they don't last very long. So I have to trouble judging whether this is an improvement from home.

And the summers are dull. Mostly monotonously sunny with no storms whatsoever interspered with some occasional marine stratus. Not really weather like an east coast summer:

Look how dry and sunny it is! Anyway, mostly pleasant but needs to be a bit warmer outside of summer to make up for the cloud. I'd have to experience it know for sure.

C

Bleh. Just changed my mind. Sunshine % is barely lower than where I used to live in upstate NY. And the spring and fall temperatures don't really any colder than here. I'll be generous and give it a B-.
