7.1/-0.6°C (44.8/30.9°F) and wall to wall sunshine today.

It isn't just your country, same thing here. Due to this high pressure, 850 hPa temps are quite mild (above 4°C in Scotland), so the temperature inversion over bare ground shows its limit. Like you said, hopefully this should change from thursday on with cooler uppers.
Lets hope so i want to see a good hard frost. I thought it would come with this sunshine but as per usual no..

I have been watching temperature past 1 hour. Down to0.9c at one point now 3.4c.

The wind at the most reaches 5mph- it is a southerly wind too. Clearly there is mixing going on. Best to wait to mid-week for a frost.

Conversely, here, it's totally calm and the temperature is falling at rate of around 0.2 degrees every 10 minutes. Currently -2.0C.

EDIT: Why does it always happen on these high pressure periods that the temp drops like a rocket at sunset and then rises after sunset and stalls and then only drops about 2c in 8 hours.

In Aboyne the temperature dropped about 12c in 4 hours. And in the last hour it has risen by 0.2c

Same here it dropped to 2c from 10c in 3 hours and now it has stalled in clear skies? This country is weird. I guess we have to wait for the cool air to come on Thursday for proper cold nights.
The rapid temp drop here also happened under high pressure and not a cold front . A good run of frosty nights but with sun still strong enough for mild sunburn.

6.10 pm

23C/74F, Forecast low of 13C/56F

56% RH

Clear and noisy.
