I live in NW Indiana, not far from Chicago. Coldest weather I've been in was here at home -- on rare occasions we'll have a day or two when it gets down to -20 (F). Usually, the coldest day of the year is around -5 or so.

I was waiting for you to come in with something insanely cold like that, -35C as an afternoon high?! Does anybody go outdoors on a day like that? The coldest low I've ever seen was -21C in Jena, in eastern Germany and the lowest high -12C the same day. That day didn't feel so bad because there was no wind whatsoever, but a few days later when it was -10/-15 and the wind picked up it felt horrible.

The coldest I've been outside in was -27F (-33C) last January in Lake Placid, NY.

Not only was I outside in it, but believe it or not, I camped outside that night in a tent and sleeping bag. Check out these pics!

While certainly frigid, it wasn't as cold as it sounds because it was really dry plus absolutely no windchill either.

The coldest for me was -27 (-55 windchill) in Indianapolis back in 1994. Pretty cold stuff indeed.

I won't call that warm, the warmest day has a high that is about our average for a winter day! I was expecting a couple of 50°F days in the month

I think a better description would be brutal cold to merely cold back to brutally cold
