Spring is a very gradual warm up while fall's cool down is rather quick.

As far as daily average temperatures are concerned...
March: 48F
May: 58F
Sept: 64F
Nov: 46F
So the difference between September and November is almost twice the difference between March and May.

Some other differences:
Spring DTRs are slightly wider than fall DTRs.
Fall rain is a bit heavier than spring rain.
Spring is more prone to thunderstorms than fall.
Spring weather is less settled than fall and much windier.
Fall is more prone to endlessly cloudy days. If it's cloudy in spring, usually precipitation occurs.
Completely clear days are slightly more common in fall, whereas partly cloudy days are more common in spring.

In a nutshell, spring is less predictable than fall. It's not uncommon for March days and June days to be indistinguishable. With fall, when it starts, there's no turning back. When it starts raining, that's that. End of warm weather.

Not much difference though spring is quite cooler. Both can have cool and rainy weather or sunny and warm weather.

Yes, Spring is much more volatile here. One day can feel like winter and the next summer. Also much more severe weather activity in the Spring.

Spring has more rainfall, and also crazier weather.

Here in Maine we have three feet of ice on the lakes and it is getting thicker. We will have 4 to 9 inches of snow this Saturday with another 2 inches on Easter morning. Then on Monday it will be below zero. That's Fahrenheit for the UN people.

The snow on my lawn was down to 26 inches yesterday, but we could get nearly a foot which will bring it back up to 3 feet of snow here. We all hope we do not get a warm rain. That would cause a flood.

Yes there is- usually spring is a cool sunny and dry season here, while autumn is wet, cloudy and mild.

They are very different. Autumn is cloudy, drizzly, dark and relatively warm. Spring is usually cold, sunny and dry. I like it that way.

Autumn here is 1C warmer than spring,
Rainfall is almost identical -even through summer has half of winters rainfall.
Sunshine is just a little more in spring -but not really enough to notice.

Overall spring is more changeable, with more cold fronts bringing frequent snowfall on the hills, and can be quite frosty. Autumn can see the tail end of cyclones, and gets more subtropical lows.

I like to compare seasons by what fits by temperture: summer the warmest three month period (June 11 to September 11). Then spring is the three months before, and fall the three months following. And then spring and fall have about the same average temperature.

Bigger difference is spring tends to be more variable and with larger diurnal ranges. With longer daylength and higher sun angle, the feel is rather different.

Spring is drier and much brighter here, with cooler nights and a bigger potential for 92+ highs.

We do experience seasonal lag here in South FL, but Spring "feels" hotter to me. Maybe because of the higher sun angle and the fact we're coming out of "winter".
