What are the hottest and coldest periods of the year where you live?

In Duluth, the hottest months are July and August, especially the second third of July through the first third of August. It is usually in the 70's and 80's then, and rarely gets below 50F.

The coldest months are January and February, especially the first half. High temperatures are typically in the 0's, 10's, and maybe 20's, with lows being below 0F.

In some tropical places in the Northern Hemisphere, the hottest months are April and May. I wonder if the hottest time of the year is September and October in the Southern tropics?

Between Austin and San Antonio Texas.

We typically get 30 days of 100 in the Summer (August-September). Otherwise the Summer days are something like 75-95. Many of us boat 10 months out of the year, so the heat is welcomed! Spring and Fall are wonderful, but short. Winter rarely drops below 40 degrees for more than a day or two at a time. Most days make it into the 60s. Today, December 14th, it's over 70 and my Ash tree still has a full canopy of nice green leaves!

Phoenix, AZ:

Summer gets in to full swing in May with temps in the 100's.

This summer, Phoenix clocked 117 one day. And it doesn't cool off at night (an evening low would be 90's). By October, the evenings begin to cool after a long, long summer.

It isn't even winter yet and we've had very cold weather and I am in heaven.

We've had quite a bit of rain thus far and overnight temps in the forties. We did have one frost warning in December thus far. I noticed some plants in my neighborhood sustained frost damage. It also snowed in N. Scottsdale/Carefree areas last week which isn't common.

In Paris the coldest period (more or less stagnant temps) extends roughly from late-December to mid-Frebruary. The warmest period is shorter, from mid July to mid August. Autumn cools fown faster than Spring warms up.
The coolest day (1980-2010 norms) is January 12th with 0.7°C/5.8°C (33.3°F/42.1°F). The warmest days tied are July 28th and 29th with 15.7°C/26.7°C (60.3°F/80.1°F) and 15.2°C/27.2°C (59.4°F/81°F) respectively.

Coldest period is December to March. We will have around 12 - 14 days of snow cover during this period

Hottest period is June to August.

In the summer we rarely get over 80 and that's in August. We've been here in the puget sound area 18 years and it once hit 100, a few summers up to 90. The last few years it's been cooler and colder in winter. Some time in January or February we get down to about 10F at times, but just in the last couple of years, before that the lowest was 17F.

I think for anyone living in temperate climate besides unusual climates such as coastal climates will have the same response. I don't think we have any regular posters that live in a truly tropical climate.

So, to make things less boring I'll write the warmest and coldest days where I live.

Coldest: Jan 24 34.6°F/12.6°F (1.4°C/-10.8°C)
Warmest: Jul 22 83.9°F/59.9°F (28.3°C/15.5°C)

Out of curiosity, I thought that if the year is symmetrical, Sep 22 should be about the same as May 22. And it is!

February is the hottest month in Perth, coastal parts of the SW, and some coastal parts of Southern Australia. Over most of the southern half of Australia it's January. In the north it's December, November and maybe October in the far north. The heatwaves seem just as common by late December though into March.

July is the coldest month, although August is often just as cold. Nights in August are just as cold as July but it's slightly sunnier and drier. June is the wettest month but slightly warmer.

Even in oceanic NZ, the seasonal lengths, latencies and peak periods show some variation if you divide the temperature scales at the 1/4 and 3/4 marks - see attachments.
