I found out that within 10 minutes of exposure,
46 F/8 C with a light-wind and light-rain makes pain to bare fingertips unavoidable for me
and it feels like continuously getting pricked with needles.
Does anyone else get hurting fingertips at 46 F/8 C and rain?
My fingertips used to hurt in milder temps other years,
so I was curious if my cold-sensitivity is approaching "average" levels now.
I think mine just get numb. But I do feel discomfort (though not pain) when my hands are cold.
My worst experience with hands being in the cold happened last winter when I arrived at a rental condo for a ski vacation on what was one of the coldest days that winter - perhaps 0F. I was the first one there and the owner left a combination to open a combination lock. The keys were so small that you could only press them without gloves on. For some reason the lock wouldnt open - or I just didnt know how to use it, so I kept trying every which way to open it for 10-15 min. I was really afraid I was gonna get frost bite.
Good question. I guess it does depend on the wind and how long my hands are exposed. I guess if it's below 50 F, windy, and I'm outside for a long period of time, there would be some discomfort.
I almost got frostbite last year on a 0 F morning. My hands never hurt so much.
Below freezing. It's never really a pins and needles pain, just numbness.
I hate when my pockets are full and I can't feel out what I want. I'd have to pull out the objects to get a visual. This is when I've been outside in the cold for way too long without any gloves- Which was the case a lot growing up! You know, my "reckless" phase.
It really needs to be below freezing (or near-freezing with strong winds). I got it bad when I used to bike to work. On frosty winter mornings my hands would be aching and I'd have to run them under the hot tap for a couple of minutes. And this was with ski gloves on! It was very unpleasant!
